Five Natural Skincare Tips for Summer
I like to keep it simple in the summer and travel light for holidays and this includes my skincare too. If I can use multi-tasking products that will do three jobs in one then they are included in my kit.
If you are flying out to the sun don’t forget that your skin needs extra care and attention in hot and dry climates and this means that you may need a slightly different routine than usual.
Here are my five top tips for your holiday this summer if you are spending time in the sun.
Sunscreen
I am frequently asked for recommendations for natural sunscreen and there are two products that I have been using for a few years that I am very happy to recommend. I am also pleased to report that they are both vegan and provide broad spectrum protection. Original Sprout and Green People are my preferred choices for natural sunscreen. They are good for the environment too as our use of synthetic sunscreen has a detrimental effect on our oceans when we go for a dip.
Feet
We all want super smooth feet when it’s flip flop season and it is quite difficult to achieve as feet require constant attention. When you have removed dry skin (I like to use Ped Egg) smother your feet with shea butter and pop on a pair of socks. I like to do this at night to let the nourishing butter soak in and do its stuff.
A Little Oil Goes A Long Way
Argan Oil is my ultimate multi-tasking oil and I always take a bottle on holiday. You can use oil for so many purposes and save yourself taking multiple bottles. A few uses include moisturising your face, after sun, hair serum and nail oil. The list of uses is endless and it will save some serious space in your suitcase.
Hair Rinse
For the ultimate in smoothing your hair cuticles use an Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) hair rinse after your usual shampoo. I was a bit nervous before I tried it on my hair because I didn’t want to end up smelling like a packet of salt and vinegar crisps. But fear not. Mix a couple of teaspoons of ACV with about half a pint of water and pour all over your hair and scalp after washing. I find it really cools and soothes my scalp. Leave the solution for one to two minutes before rinsing well in the shower. Your hair will smell a bit when its wet but you won’t be able to detect any odour at all once dry. You will be pleasantly surprised by the smooth, sleek and soft appearance of your locks and with not a silicone in sight.
Rose Water
When the heat is intense and you feel drained there is nothing more refreshing than a spritz of rose water on your face and neck to cool you down. It’s even better if you keep it in the fridge. If you are out and about keep it in your cool bag so you have instant relief throughout the day. You can also use rose water to cleanse and tone so it’s another great multi-tasker.
