Three Trends for a Better World
It’s that time of year when we think about resolutions, improvements and new challenges. The new year brings an opportunity for a fresh start and new beginnings.
It’s also a good time to look at trends. I was reading an article recently that listed several health trends for 2018 which included turmeric and activated charcoal which also happen to be wonderful natural soap making ingredients. Anyway, this got me thinking about three trends that I would like to see in 2018.
An end to the use of Animal Ingredients in Cosmetics
In 2013 the EU introduced a complete ban on the sale of all new cosmetics that have been tested on animals, but this doesn’t mean that animal ingredients cannot be used in cosmetics. For example, hyaluronic acid (HA) in the cosmetics industry is from rooster combs which is the red fleshy crest on top of a rooster’s head. Most if not all the HA skincare products on the high street will be from this cruel source.
A Positive Emphasis on Growing Old
We only seem to hear about the downside to growing old such as wrinkles, grey hair and aches and pains. How about embracing ageing? Because not everyone is lucky enough to grow old. “Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.” Age shouldn’t stop you from doing anything you want. There is plenty of inspiration out there such as Fauja Singh who ran his first marathon when he was 85.
An end to the Plastic Pollution that is Destroying Oceans
We need to end our love affair with plastic by using less of it and recycling more. Sir David Attenborough has called for the world to cut back on its use of plastic. His recent TV series, Blue Planet II, showed the damage the material is causing to marine life. According to Greenpeace 35 million plastic bottles are discarded every day in the UK.
